Provincial Nominee program (PNP) - Fast Immigration to Canada

>> Monday, September 1, 2008

An individual who wants to immigrate to Canada may also consider under Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program.

At present, prior to implementation of the approved amendment of the IRPA that ultimately aims to speed up a Residents Visa application to 6 to 12 months, most PNP applications are decided faster compared to applications forwarded to the Federal Skilled workers and professionals category.

Provincial nominees, as they will be called, are selected based on their ability to contribute to the province's economic development.

Most provinces in Canada participate in the Provincial Nomination Program, except Quebec, who doesn’t participate. Quebec as a province has entered into an agreement with the Government of Canada and has their own selection criteria for all economic immigrants wishing to immigrate to their province.

List of Canadian Provinces participating in the PNP

An applicant must first apply to the province of their choice and get a Provincial Nomination Certificate, before submitting an application to immigrate to Canada

After a successful nomination by the province they applied to, a separate application must be made to Citizenship and Immigration Canada for Canada Immigration (Permanent Resident) Visa.

Provincial Nomination Program processing times vary from one Canadian Immigration Visa office to another.

For more information on the Provincial Nomination Programs (PNP), I suggest you visit the Canadian Embassy website.
