Ottawa, November 3, 2011 – The Government of Canada is planning to welcome more federal skilled workers in 2012, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) remains the principal avenue for permanent immigration to Canada. In 2012, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) plans to welcome 55,000–57,000 federal skilled workers, up from 47,000–47,400 in the 2011 Immigration Levels Plan.

"“The government’s number one priority remains the economy. We recognize the importance of immigration to our labour market and we value the contributions of skilled immigrants who add to our international competitiveness,”" said Minister Kenney. The current program for Federal Skilled Worker Class, which is processed within 6 to 12 months, has four very important measures that applicants need to consider:

1. Only those applicants who have work experience in the eligible list of occupations can apply.

2. The time-line for the application is between July 1 up to June 30 of the following year.

3. The complete application package is required at the beginning of the the application process.

4. There is a quota for each eligible list, last June 26, 2010 the quota per occupation was 1000 while last July 1, 2011 it was 500 per occupation.

Since the list of eligible occupations is not published in advance, those who wants to apply for this program must ready the full application package to make themselves eligible for the program.

Readying the Application package is the minimum requirements to make sure that you can take advantage of this opportunity, not doing so would mean that you will loose slots even during the time when your occupation is part of the eligible list for Federal Skilled Worker class Permanent Residents Application for Canada.
